March 5 - PA Events - Joshua Anderson

Hello,
I hope everyone is well. First, a quick thank you. Several people during the senior commented on what a nice club we have, and while the club certainly reflects my vision, it wouldn't be possible without all the help I get from many of you, so I just wanted to say a quick thank you.
Second, the mail system has been reworked slightly.  Ideally, none of you should receive these messages twice, and everyone should get them once.
Third, below is a rough of the May-August 2025 calendar.  This calendar looks rough and will have changes and, of course, more specifics.  It should give you an update as to camps, tournaments, etc.  If you think there are key things that we are missing, please let me know.  Two special tournaments of note, 5/30 and 6/1, will be a weekend Swiss with several thousand in prizes.  The event will be a fundraiser for a 2nd bathroom for the club.  The following weekend will be the parents' tournament.  There will be a section for moms and a section for dads; kids will likely watch a couple of chess movies while moms and dads get to play—more details on both events will follow.  I'm still working out about a one-day senior event.
Fourth, we will have five classes this fall: three taught by Ram, one taught by Vahini, and one taught by Pradyoth. Their schedule should be up in the next few days, but all will start at the beginning of April and end before Memorial Day.
Fifth, if you haven't signed up for states, you can still do so.  Remember when you sign up to list our club.  If you have any questions about sections, just let me know.  The link is - https://www.kingregistration.com/event/PA2025Scholastics
Finally, this weekend is full of chess stuff to do.
Friday night, we will run a 3-round, 4-section event, perfect for beginners with U300, U600, U900, and Open (with an additional $50 prize.)  You can sign up here: https://tribridgeschessclub.com/event/friday-night-tournament-exton-commons-event-82/
I run a king and pawn endgame seminar on Saturday for beginner players from 2 to 4.  It is the first of 3 I am running on endings to help kids prepare for the state championship in a few weeks.  (If you are having trouble with the link for that event, you can sign up at - https://tribridgeschessclub.com/event/ending-seminar-i-for-the-300-to-800s-or-there-about-2/
     There are many tournaments, including:
https://delawarechessassociation.org/registration/ - DE state championship, this is a 2-day event
On Sunday, we are running a blitz event at Code Ninja.  Though it is listed as a blitz event, we are going with G/8, d3 so everyone can prep for the state quick championship held on Friday night before the state scholastic championship at the end of the month.

Take care,

Mar 6 - March 15th Quads - Ken Milutin

Good morning to all!   We have just over 1 week to go before our next rated event here at The Peninsula! (details below) and we have 5 slots still available for the 3/15 event.    If you have already confirmed with me.....THANK YOU!
If you have not done so already, please let me know as soon as possible if you plan on participating!  The remaining dates for 2025 are (all Saturdays):

3/15
4/5
9/13
10/18
11/15

"The Peninsula" is located approximately 15 minutes west of Rehoboth Beach or 15 minutes east of Millsboro.   Our community has approved the use of a very adequate room to hold rated chess events.  There are several important points:  The number of outside players (those not living in this subdivision) I am allowed to accomodate is maxed at approximately 20.  Everyone wishing to participate must be registered at our entrance gate (I do this on my end). This means that the first 20 people who respond via email that wish to play are "in".  If 20 people have registered and more reach out, then a waiting list is created...if someone can't come that has previously committed, I will then reach out to those on the waiting list in the order that they were received. A very important note:  If I have not registered you with the front gate, you cannot access the subdivision and tournament....you will need ID.   I hope that's not too confusing.  SPECIAL NOTE:  There is some construction at the Guard Gate...follow the instructions for entrance.  This construction may or may not be complete by tournament time...There are directions to the parking area and playing site below.  If construction is still on-going, ask the guard for directions to the Lakeside Room.  Call me if you need assistance 410.430.9343.  Thank you!

AN ADDED NOTE:  Dropping out of the event sometimes cannot be avoided.  Lately, we have had a few folks do so, just because they didn't feel like playing in their last game.  Again, I can't keep you from dropping out, but please remember when you do so, especially in a Quad, a 2nd player then does not get a game.  Yes, dropping out gives the other player a free point (no rating effect) but most are not here for that...they want to play 3 rated games. In our last event, a player in a Quad finished his game 2, then patiently waited for over an hour for the other game in his Quad to finish.  Once finished, a player then decided to drop out, leaving that player without a game.  Let's try to commit to playing all 3 rounds if at all possible.  You can always start early if both players agree!   This makes it fair for all. Try to remember:  "If you’re in it to play, you’re in it for the day!"

This is a rated event....your USCF Membership must be current!

Bring a set, board & clock as well as score-sheets.....none provided.  There may be some chess items (books, sets, boards) for sale.
IMPORTANT:  There are many different types of chess clocks out there, making it difficult to know how to set each and every one.  I know how to set many of them, but not all. Please familiarize yourself with your own clock and know how to set it!  Thank you!

Donations are appreciated.

Water & coffee provided and possibly some other additional goodies!

Lunch will not be provided. NOTE: The Terrace Grille (adjacent to the Lakeside Room) is currently closed for the season for lunch, but will be open for use as a skittles and break area!

ADDITIONAL INFO:

LOCATION:
Address: 32981 Peninsula Esplanade, Millsboro, DE 19966 (The Peninsula)

The subdivision of The Peninsula is in the Long Neck area of Millsboro (approximately midway between Millsboro and Rehoboth Beach DE off of Route 24.)

DIRECTIONS:  Route 24 East from Millsboro: make a right on Bay Farm Road: proceed to the end of Bay Farm Road (approximately 1 mile). Route 24 West from Route 1: make a left on Bay Farm Road: proceed to the end of Bay Farm Road (approximately 1 mile). You will see the entrance to The Peninsula. Follow the signs and proceed to the check in at the Guard Gate. The guard will have a list of names participating in the event. Once through the gates., proceed to the round-about, take the 2nd exit. Proceed straight until you get to a stop sign (a clubhouse will be in front of you). Follow the street arrows around the roundabout and take the 3rd exit (Sterling Blvd.) There will be ample parking to your right (park in the 2nd lot...the first lot is for golfers). The Lakeside Room will be across the street from the Parking Lot (blue colored building).  If you need assistance, I will have my cell phone on and can help: 410.430.9343.

Although McDonalds, a deli and other eating establishments are reasonably close by, I would suggest that you pack your lunch.  We may have a separate area for skittles and breaks, plus, if the weather is nice, there will be tables and seating outdoors. NOTE: The Terrace Grille is a small sandwich shop located next to the playing room.  This is a seasonal establishment and is now closed for lunch!

It is very important that you let me know ASAP if you will be attending and just as important, if you register and then cannot make it for some reason.....notifying me of not being able to attend after registering. This will allow me to reach out to those on the "waitlist" so we can give them the opportunity to play.

This is an ongoing process.....times, formats and procedures may be modified in the future based on your suggestions and how smoothly the events play out.  ***Based on some recent local rated tournaments that have tried G75, D;5, I may experiment with that time control in this and/or one or more of our 2025 events.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thank You.
